A divorce is something no one in Massachusetts wants to have to go through, but sometimes marriages simply don’t work out. When children are involved, child custody can be a contentious topic to speak on, and it can leave ex-husbands and wives fighting over their rights. In those cases, legal support can help you understand your rights and help you make the best decisions for your children and family.
If you follow celebrity news, then you know that even celebrities have to go through divorces sometimes. That’s what’s happening right now to Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian Fink. Best known for playing a doctor on the hit Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey is a well-known actor. He and his wife had been married for 15 years.
Fink decided to file for divorce, according to the report from Jan. 23, and has made a number of demands. She cited irreconcilable differences, and she has asked for joint custody of their three children, ages 12 (their daughter) and 7 (twin boys). It’s not clear who would be the main custodian of the children if joint custody is granted. Fink is also asking for child and spousal support following the divorce. She may get it, as the couple does not have a prenuptial agreement stating otherwise.
While it appears the couple is ending their relationship with respect and dignity toward one another, your divorce may not be going as well. If you’re struggling with your ex over custody, visitation rights, or child support, you may want to consider seeking help from the law. By understanding the rights you have, you can make this transition easier on yourself and your children.
