A mother involved in a child custody dispute now has to go through a competency exam after failing to return her children on time. The July 16 report claims that the woman and her children were the subjects of an Amber alert after she took her children to Maine in violation of her custody agreement.
After allegedly stalking her children, she was arrested. The woman has now had to appear in the Superior Court in Rockville, and she will have to take a competency evaluation. That evaluation was requested by her lawyer.
The woman had her three sons, a 9-year-old and 11-year-old twins, in her custody for Mother’s Day. When she failed to return them as required under her child custody agreement, the man spoke to one of his sons. His son told him that they were on a road will tollbooths, which meant that the woman was heading either to Massachusetts or Maine. She had ties to both states.
Within a few hours of issuing an Amber alert, the woman and her sons were located in Bangor, Maine, at a hotel. At that time, she was arrested and charged with three counts of custodial interference. She was also charged with three counts of risk to injury to a child. At that point, she was able to post bail, which was set at $20,000.
She was arrested again for second-degree stalking and for violating a protective order when she was discovered outside her sons’ apartment building. She has now been placed in police custody and has a bail of $100,000.
In situations like this, there are many reasons people could disobey child custody orders. However, you have a right to see your children in the way your custody orders specify. If you find yourself in this kind of situation, it may be wise to seek legal assistance.
