It is common to hear about a divorce in the news today as many marriages end in this manner. It is easy for people to become desensitized to the news, especially if they personally have not gone through the same experience. Many people do not realize that going through a divorce is comparable to dealing with the death of a loved one. These experiences are even more devastating for someone who is famous because his or her divorce details will be displayed throughout tabloids and entertainment news programs as constant reminders of their loss. One famous woman, married in Massachusetts, is learning about the complexity of the process of receiving a same-sex divorce.
This story begins in 2009 when Jane Lynch, a famous movie and Broadway star, met the woman who would soon become her wife. The couple married in a small ceremony in Massachusetts in 2010, one of the few states that currently allow same-sex marriage. Interviews given by told of her bond with her step-daughter.
Unfortunately, Lynch announced her and her spouse’s intention to split in mid-June. As part of the statement announcing their divorce, the couple requested privacy as they go through their difficult split. Fans were saddened to hear of the end of their relationship.
Same-sex couples who marry in Massachusetts, for example of a state that allows such marriages, find that their residency in a state that does not allow it often complicates their divorce proceedings. Such complexity while going through a same-sex divorce only adds to the difficult emotional time a couple is already undergoing. It is unclear in what state Lynch will seek a divorce.
