Many parents do everything they can for their children. Even after a divorce, they are present emotionally and financially for their children, although sometimes events occur that prevent a parent from making child support payments — events beyond the parent’s control. However, this doesn’t lessen the child’s need for financial support. If a parent fails to make payments, there are actions available to compensate. A Framingham man was recently arrested for his failure to make payments for his daughter.
According to reports filed at the Framingham District Court, the 28-year-old man was taken into custody in late May. He was allegedly under a bed in an apartment when he was discovered. The police were working in conjunction with a task force from a neighboring state.
A lawyer for the arrested man reports that he had just started working at a new job. The man had agreed to a $90 deduction from his paycheck to help meet his child support obligations. However, he has still been charged with 20 counts of missing child support payments and contempt.
While it appears that the man had recently made arrangements to meet his child support responsibilities, it appears that he may have waited too long. The exact amount of money that the Framingham man owes is unknown, but he will now have to face a judge with criminal charges as opposed to requesting a modification to his child support requirements to reflect a possible change in his circumstances. While many people go through hard times and have difficulty making ends meet, his daughter still needs financial support to meet her every day needs. If someone feels they cannot meet their financial obligations, a proactive approach might be more effective than possible criminal charges.
