Celebrity divorces can often be just as contentious, if not more so, than a divorce between an average Massachusetts couple. This appears to be the case in the heated divorce process unfolding between NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and his estranged wife, Pilar. The testimony in their ongoing divorce case has been particularly unflattering as they both accuse each other of various improprieties.
Pilar, for instance, has alleged that Deion engaged in steroid use, something that the football star has apparently denied. He, on the other hand, has accused her of posting suggestive photos online and participating in a phone service called Dial a Star. This service purportedly allows individuals interested in reality television stars the chance to pay $17 per minute in order to speak with them. The jury also got to see clips from an R-rated film had evidently appeared in.
At issue in this dispute is the child custody of the couple’s children. A representative for Pilar indicated that she is simply trying to get on her feet in an attempt to support her children. He said that it wasn’t fair to try and portray her in a negative light simply for trying to take care of her family.
While the public scrutiny that comes with a celebrity split may be intense, the divorce process can be just as emotional-and sometimes contentious-for Massachusetts spouses who are not considered famous. No matter a person’s fame, understanding the rights and responsibilities governed by Massachusetts family law can be important. The divorce process can be made less intimidating when individuals understand what to expect and have a clear idea of what is fair when it comes time to negotiate details such as child custody and support.
